AQUIND welcomes the results of the Ten Year Network Development Plan 2022

AQUIND welcomes the results of the Ten Year Network Development Plan 2022 (TYNDP 2022) published by ENTSO-E.  The report shows that Great Britain is to play a central role in facilitating pan-European common goals of reaching Net Zero, decarbonising the grid and reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels.

In particular, the result of the independent System Needs Study, which forms part of TYNDP 2022, identifies an urgent economic need for an additional 4800MW of interconnection capacity by 2030 over the existing 4000MW between France and Great Britain. AQUIND Interconnector will be able to provide 2000MW of this capacity, and in the timeframe required.

According to the results of the central National Trends 2030, AQUIND Interconnector will bring significant benefits to Europe by increasing Social and Economic Welfare by €245m per year, reducing CO2 emissions by 1116 ktonnes per year and avoiding 3582 GWh of renewable energy curtailment per year. These results add to the growing evidence base of the necessity of AQUIND for France, Great Britain, and Europe as a whole and its business case.
